A superb antique Georgian mourning ring. The large circular glazed locket front is set with woven hair and black enamel, bordered with beautiful pearls. Modelled in 9 karat yellow gold. The inscription on the inside of the band reads "Robert Wharrie, ob 17th March 1793, oet 48". Wharrie is a ancient Scottish name that dates back to the first kings of Scotland in the 9th century. It comes from Guaire, an old Gaelic personal name meaning noble or proud.
